France’s installed solar PV capacity reached 6,549 MW at the end of December 2015, according to the latest figures from the French Sustainable Development Commission (CGDD).
During the year 2015, France also connected a total of 900 MW of solar, which was propped up by the commissioning of the largest solar park in Europe, the 300 MW Cestas solar park near Bordeaux, which was developed by French firm Neoen, and which PV Tech visited last September.
However, the number of connected installations actually decreased by 39% compared to 2014, with particular decline in the smaller-scale installations.
France added just 82 MW in Q4 2015, which is the lowest level added in a quarter since Q3 2009 and the decline is expected to continue in the short-term.
Over the whole of 2015, PV production amounted to 6.7 TWh.
